That is a good photo of a Tomcat during a cat shot. I was never up that close during a cat shot, but saw a few standing on "Vulture's Row" on the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) in August 1992. Doe's anyone know how old this photo is? I can't see the exhaust good enough to tell if it is a F-14A or a F-14D. The object on the starboard wing pylon, I think is a "Lantirn" pod, of which I nothing about because they came out sometime in the Mid-90's and I got out in 1993. The tail markings indicate this Tomcat is from VF-111 "Sun Downers", they were posted at NAS Miramar until the base was turned over to the US Marine Corps.

This is a great collection of aviation pics. I used to have a nice collection of aviation lithos with a lot of famous autographs including Jimmy Doolittle but they were all destroyed in Hurricane Andrew when I was at Homestead AFB. I even got to meet Keith Ferris who did the mural in the Smithsonian. Crying or Very sad

I'm closing down this thread.

It was started because the original Aviation Pics thread was getting to be several pages long and the way it was under an older version of this forum software a thread would inexplicably shut down after many pages and you would get an error message.

Since that doesn't seem to be happening anymore, we should just keep adding to the original thread and keep that going.

If you posted pics here, please post them on the main topic as this one will be deleted in about one week.

Right click on image and select "View Image" for full sized (and thus better quality pic) to appear-will come up in a separate window. View 'properties' (again, right click) to see info on the image/airplane.

Apparently these are from Airfix model kit illustrations done by a Roy Cross decades ago.

They have a replica of the Spirit of St Louis at the Henry Ford Mueasum here " the one one used in the James Stewart movie", damn thing still leaks oil
