Experimenting here...we've had success with putting many of our picture posts in categories and that cuts down on the total number of pages in the pic forums, so I want to see if it will work here. Desert

Nancy Pelosi's Syria Visit Sparks Criticism For Bungled Shuttle Diplomacy

WASHINGTON — An apparently botched message during a widely discouraged visit by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Syria this week has U.S. officials criticizing rogue efforts at diplomacy among U.S. politicians.

State Department officials said Thursday they made it quite clear they did not want Pelosi to visit Syria, a nation that is listed as a state sponsor of terror and is home to terror group Hezbollah, which started a low-grade war with Israel last summer.

Pelosi is the highest ranking U.S. official to go to Syria since former Secretary of State Colin Powell visited the nation in 2003. Defying the White House's Middle East policy by meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad, Pelosi said, "The road to Damascus is a road to peace."

Just like old times...

Putin: Missile tests by Russia 'a response to US imperialism'

VLADIMIR ISACHENKOV IN MOSCOW

VLADIMIR Putin, the Russian president, said yesterday that tests of new Russian missiles were a response to the planned deployment of United States missile defense installations and other forces in Europe.

In a clear reference to the US, he criticized "diktat and imperialism" in global affairs and warned that Russia will strengthen its military potential to maintain a global strategic balance.

"It wasn't us who initiated a new round of arms race," Mr Putin said when asked about Russia's missile tests this week.

He described the tests of a new ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads and a new cruise missile as part of the Russian response to the planned deployment of new US military bases and missile defense sites in central and eastern Europe.

Thanks, KY...pretty remarkable footage.

What's always interesting besides the folks that believe in such things (including JFK conspiracies, Big Foot, UFOs, etc.) and try to provide proof and explanations is the folks who take it upon themselves to doggedly debunk them.

Anyway...

Here's one they should put in the stocks in the public square and let us throw mud at him. Hope he does some hard time.

I'm pretty cynical, though. Unless these cons do something to affect big business or affect .gov sites, little is done to get them. For instance, if they specialized in cloning cell phones and stealing credit cards/identities, how much effort do the Feds actually put into catching them?

Notorious spammer caught by federal authorities

US authorities revealed that they have arrested allegedly one of the most prolific spammers from his apartment in Seattle on charges ranging from mail fraud, wire fraud, email fraud, aggravated identity theft and money laundering.

Authorities say that 27-year old Robert Alan Soloway, often regarded as the Spam King, indulged in sending millions of spam emails and has conned many in email fraud since 2003. Soloway operated by hacking into computers to steal personal information and made use of Chinese servers to cover his tracks in case of investigations.

Yeah, and the people of India were in a tizzy when Richard Gere kissed one of their actresses...looks like they really don't have much of a moral high ground to stand on as they would wish everyone to believe. Rolling Eyes

Act or get tagged for slavery, warns US

WASHINGTON: India has been warned to act swiftly on its human trafficking record involving forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation or risk being censured for what Washington calls "modern-day slavery."
......

The report also recalled the services of Vipula Kadri, the founder and National Director of Save the Children India, an organization charged with preventing the abuse and exploitation of children which brought together representatives from government, law enforcement, civil society, Bollywood celebrities, media, and private industry to raise awareness about trafficking of women and girls into commercial sexual exploitation in India.

A hint of our not too distant future?

Muhammad is No 2 in boy's names (Great Britain)

From The Times
June 6, 2007

Helen Nugent and Nadia Menuhin

Muhammad is now second only to Jack as the most popular name for baby boys in Britain and is likely to rise to No 1 by next year, a study by The Times has found. The name, if all 14 different spellings are included, was shared by 5,991 newborn boys last year, beating Thomas into third place, followed by Joshua and Oliver.

Scholars said that the name’s rise up the league table was driven partly by the growing number of young Muslims having families, coupled with the desire to name their child in honour of the Prophet.

Hmmm...didn't know that Red China and Pakistan were so cozy. Also didn't know that the Islamofascists want to kill Chinese people as well...silly me-keep forgetting that they want to kill everybody including themselves:

Quote:
Associated Press
Attack on Chinese in Pakistan Kills 13
By ZARAR KHAN 07.19.07

KARACHI, Pakistan -

Assailants detonated a powerful remote-control bomb and opened fire on a convoy carrying Chinese workers in southern Pakistan Thursday, killing at least 13 Pakistanis and injuring about 30, police and doctors said.

None of the Chinese workers was hurt in the incident, which occurred in Hub, just north of the port city of Karachi, said Faizullah Korejo, Hub's deputy police chief.

.............

Another senior police officer said the last two vehicles of a five-vehicle convoy came under attack. Vehicles carrying about 10 Chinese engineers and workers already had passed, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity since he was not authorized to speak with the media.

The dead included policemen and civilians along the road.

About 30 people, many in critical condition, were evacuated to a Karachi hospital, said Dr. Tariq Kamal.

An AP Television News reporter on the scene said the attack took place in the town's main bazaar area and shattered more than 20 roadside shops. Several cars rammed into one another in the chaos that followed the explosion.

A gun battle then erupted between the surviving police and the attackers, Korejo said.

After the July 8 attack, China sent a protest to Pakistan, a close economic and military ally. In response, Islamabad vowed to step up security for an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 Chinese nationals in the country.

Officials have suggested the Peshawar attack was linked to the then-ongoing army operation against Islamabad's Red Mosque. Troops moved in after Islamic radicals from the mosque kidnapped several Chinese women they accused of being prostitutes.

I also get the impression that they view all women as prostitutes...

Is that right? The Democrats say we should be fighting the terrorists in Pakistan but not in Iraq or even Afghanistan? So if President Bush had ordered the invasion of Pakistan the Dems would be saying we should invade Iraq and Afghanistan instead?

Quote:
Why Do Some Democrats Seem Conflicted Over Fighting Al Qaeda?
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
By John Gibson
Fox News

Democrats argue that we are creating more terrorists in Iraq than we would be facing had we not invaded Iraq. We'll argue that another time. But what about terrorists coming from Pakistan?

Democrat presidential hopeful Barack Obama said: "…Al Qaeda maintains a safe haven, an intact leadership, and the capability to plan further attacks. It is time to act to correct those mistakes, and the first step is to get out of Iraq, because you can't win a war when you're on the wrong battlefield."

Wrong battlefield? Is Obama suggesting we should be fighting inside Pakistan, that we should invade our biggest ally in the War on Terror?

Obama wasn't the only one. Democrat Silvestre Reyes of Texas said: "The administration's ill-fated misadventure in Iraq has diverted needed resources from eliminating the threat from Al Qaeda." He also seems to be saying we should be fighting Al Qaeda where they are in Pakistan, but not where they are in Iraq.

Pardon me for being confused. These Democrats want to fight Al Qaeda in one place but not another? Why Pakistan and not Iraq?

Yeah, SW, and since that article above was posted Obama's come out with even stronger language. If I thought that the Pakistani government was actively against us or harboring the terrorists purposely, I'd agree. Strange that Obama didn't mention Iran? Confused

Anyway...

WTF??? Ran into this on the web-I didn't hear anything about this over here. Also, I wonder if there is any validity to it or if it's some kind of Anti-Israeli/Jewish thing. Seems to have been picked up by what appear to be reputable news services though:

Documents claim Israel aided Entebbe hijack

Mark Tran
Friday June 1, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

The Israeli secret service and radical Palestinians may have engineered the hijacking of an Air France plane that flew to Entebbe in Uganda, according to a claim in newly released government documents.

This extraordinary interpretation on the Entebbe raid was cited by a British diplomat, DH Colvin of the Paris embassy, in June 30 1976 as the world was transfixed by the hostage crisis in Entebbe, which features in the recent film The Last King of Scotland.

In a document released by the National Archives, Mr Colvin, citing an unnamed contact at the Euro-Arab parliamentary association, wrote: "According to his information, the hijack was the work of the PFLP [Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine], with help from the Israeli secret service, the Shin Beit."

Describing the collaboration as an unholy alliance, he went on: "The operation was designed to torpedo the PLO's [Palestine Liberation Organisation] standing in France and to prevent what they see as a growing rapprochement between the PLO and the Americans.

Ran across this. Rape cases are hard enough to convict on and many probably go unreported, but if this information is true then it is easy to see why the courts are forced to view many cases with suspicion.

Quote:
Research Shows False Accusations Of Rape Common
By Glenn Sacks (09/17/04)

According to a nine-year study conducted by former Purdue sociologist Eugene J. Kanin, in over 40 percent of the cases reviewed, the complainants eventually admitted that no rape had occurred (“Archives of Sexual Behavior,” Vol. 23, No. 1, 1994). Kanin also studied rape allegations in two large Midwestern universities and found that 50 percent of the allegations were recanted by the accuser.

Kanin found that most of the false accusers were motivated by a need for an alibi or a desire for revenge. Kanin was once well known and lauded by the feminist movement for his groundbreaking research on male sexual aggression. His studies on false rape accusations, however, received very little attention.

Kanin's findings are hardly unique. In 1985 the Air Force conducted a study of 556 rape accusations. Over one quarter of the accusers admitted, either just before they took a lie detector test of after they had failed it, that no rape occurred. A further investigation by independent reviewers found that 60 percent of the original rape allegations were false.

Passports Help Child Support Collections

Wednesday August 22, 2007 11:51pm

Danville, VA - Long overdue child support payments are rolling in by the millions and it's all thanks to new passport requirements. The State Department already denies a passport to any non-custodial parent that owes more than $2,500 in back child support.

So now that travelers need a passport to travel to Mexico and Canada, more deadbeat parents are paying up and more single parents are able to make ends meet.

Israeli 'neo-Nazi gang' arrested

sraeli police say they have broken up a gang of neo-Nazis who are accused of carrying out attacks on foreigners, gay people and religious Jews.

The eight suspects, aged 16-21, are all Israeli citizens from the former Soviet Union. They were arrested a month ago, but the news only emerged on Saturday.

Why Did Fox Censor Sally Field's Emmy Speech?

(maybe because it had nothing to do with her award? Confused )

Quote:
he Academy of Television Arts and Sciences really liked Sally Field Sunday night. Fox, it seems, did not.

While accepting an Emmy for best lead actress in a drama (for her role as Nora Walker on ABC's "Brothers & Sisters"), the 60-year-old actress who memorably peppered her 1985 Oscar acceptance speech with the much-parodied assertion "You really like me!" used her stage time to make an anti-war statement.

I wish they would quit using the awards ceremonies as a soap box. She needs to accept her award, thank those who voted for her and gotten off the stage.
